WK22: Day 1 - 9 Months Pregnant

Another day waking up feeling exhausted from a bad nights sleep. I had an appointment with my community midwife today so I had to get up with Mart and Luke to get myself up there by 9am. Something which takes double the length of time now. I don’t think I will be able to take public transport up to the clinic for much longer. My midwife has agreed to see me at home for my appointment next month which is great. Blood pressure and urine were fine and we heard all their heartbeats really easily. My bump was measured and I’m now officially as big as an average 9 months pregnant singleton women. It’s quite incredible really when I'm only what would be just over half way through the singleton gestation. I also weighed myself and I was surprised to find that I was only 70kg (11.1 stone) I thought I would be more than that by now. The babies seem to be growing ok, so I don’t think it’s too much of an issue. I should be having a proper check of all the measurements at my appointment on Wednesday so we’ll see if in the last two weeks that they have grown enough. I am interested to know how much they weigh, as up until now i have only been given measurements. I wonder if this is something you get told before they are born.

We also booked a glucose tolerance test for me this Thursday. This should be an interesting one as I am going to need to be at the doctors for a 9:30am blood test, having not eaten from midnight the night before. I am then going to need to wait two hours in the surgery drinking only a bottle of Lucozade to have another blood test at 11:30. This will establish how my body processes sugar and should be able to tell whether I have gestational diabetes or not. If I do, it could be the reason for the excess fluid around baby2. I also had some blood taken to test for infections which could possibly be causing it.

Here’s my weekly bump pic...

  3. Hi Emma I read your blog in awe, bless you. I had twins 5 months ago now, I can't believe it's gone so fast and I was in agony with spd towards the end and I had physio at the hospital which consisted mainly loads of really excellent advice on how to get in and out of bed, in and out of the car, up and down stairs etc. Sounds simple but it def helped me to think about how I was positioning myself. They recommended a support belt called serola which I tried and I found great as you can tighten it once it's on you as I couldn't get the normal ones tight enough to support me. Try eBay for a cheaper price. And I also recommend pregnancy yoga with a qualified pregnancy yoga instructor, I learnt much more from those classes than any pre-natal class. However I found that the classes only run in the evening and as I already had a 3 year old and my other half works away I couldn't get to the classes during my twin pregnancy. But I remembered lots of advice on posture and exercise that helped a lot.
Good luck Emma, you are doing fantastic. And your bump looks fantastic. Take care of yourself. X

  5. @Michelle - Hi! Thank you for such an encouraging and helpful comment, and congratulations on your babies! I'm really in a lot of pain at the moment, mainly at night and when I'm in bed (supposedly sleeping!) I will have a look at the belt you have suggested, thank you! My physio has also given me some great advice, but I'm still struggling. I also did pregnancy yoga with my first which was amazing and I'm sure what contributed to a wonderful birthing experience for me. I'm also in the same position with not being able to do it again, but i'm also finding from the moves that I am trying I'm so large so it's not very easy :). I think just the breathing and the relaxation of the moves I can manage help. I seem to sleep a lot better afterwards. Hope to see you again soon. Em x

@prec1ous - lovely to hear from you and thank you! I really hope this information can be of help to some people as you say. Em x

  7. Hi M - Thank you so much! I had a look at your blogs and see you are a midwife :) You have some amazing birthing videos on your page. I had such a wonderful birth with my son that I am a little sad I won't be able to experience it in the same way again with my boys. Take care, Em x
